My homemade chai sugar is the perfect for topping oatmeal or porridge, blondies, buttered toast, and more! It’s also great to stir into teas and lattes. To make it, simply add all of the ingredients to a container, shake, and use to your heart’s desire!

To make my homemade chai-infused sugar, you’ll need the following ingredients:

All you’ll need is some pre-made chai spice blend and granulated sugar! If you don’t have pre-made chai spice, my recipe card includes ingredients needed to make it from scratch.

Feel free to make this recipe your own and play around with the ratios! For example, if you want more of a kick, add a bit more black pepper.

How to Make Homemade Chai Sugar

Add ingredients into container and whisk to fully mix. Alternatively, close container and shake to combine, which is what I did!

Ways To Enjoy Chai Sugar

  1. In lattes and teas. I like swapping out regular sugar with chai sugar for extra flavor, especially for black tea.
  2. On bread! Try spreading softened butter onto bread, sprinkling on some chai sugar, then heating it up in a toaster oven or air fryer!
  3. Roll cookie dough balls in it right before baking.
  4. Sprinkle on top of oatmeal.

Storage

Store chai-infused sugar in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 years.

Ingredients 

If using pre-made chai spice blend:

  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar feel free to try other types of sugar, like brown or alternative sugars!
  • 3 tablespoons (44.36 g) homemade chai spice blend adjust to taste

If making chai spice blend from scratch:

  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar feel free to try other types of sugar, like brown or alternative sugars!
  • 1 ½ tablespoons (12 g) ground cinnamon
  • 2 ¾ teaspoons (5.5 g) ground cardamom
  • 1 ¾ teaspoons (3.5 g) ground ginger
  • teaspoon (1.33 g) ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon (0.5 g) ground black pepper
  • teaspoon (0.25 g) ground cloves

Instructions 

    Make sure to use fresh spices for longer-term storage!

If using pre-made chai spice blend:

  • In a small to medium storage container, add 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar and 3 tablespoons (44.36 g) homemade chai spice blend.
  • Whisk to combine, or close container and shake.
    Keep sealed in a dry spot at room temperature for up to 2 years. Enjoy!

If making chai spice blend from scratch:

  • In a small to medium storage container, add 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar, 1 ½ tablespoons (12 g) ground cinnamon, 2 ¾ teaspoons (5.5 g) ground cardamom, 1 ¾ teaspoons (3.5 g) ground ginger, ⅔ teaspoon (1.33 g) ground nutmeg, ¼ teaspoon (0.5 g) ground black pepper, and ⅛ teaspoon (0.25 g) ground cloves.
  • Whisk to combine, or close container and shake.
    Keep sealed in a dry spot at room temperature for up to 2 years. Enjoy!
