💡 Ways to Flavor Brown Sugar Syrup

  • Fresh spices: Add fresh spices along with the water and brown sugar. Some simple options include 1-2 inch knobs of fresh ginger, a scraped vanilla bean pod, a cinnamon stick, or a few cardamom seeds! Once the sugar dissolves, remove from heat and let the flavors steep for 30 minutes. Strain the syrup into your storage container.
  • Extracts: Once the brown sugar is dissolved, remove from heat, let simple syrup slightly cool, then stir in extract. If you’re going with a basic vanilla flavor, add 1 teaspoon of extract. If using a stronger flavor like almond, maple, butter, coconut, hazelnut, etc., try 1/4 teaspoon first, then work your way up.
