It comes in several forms: whole seeds, ground powder, and smooth paste, all of which add a deep, nutty, earthy richness to food. You can typically find black sesame online or in the oil, seasoning, or spice aisle of grocery stores, especially at Asian markets.
Black sesame can be found in a wide range of dishes, including ice creams, cakes, mochi, savory dressings, and spreads!

How to Make A Double Hojicha Latte

Step 1: In your serving cup, mix black sesame paste with hot water or milk until smooth. Add sweetener of choice and top off with milk.

Step 2 (optional topping): In a small bowl, whisk cream cheese and sweetener until smooth. Mix in heavy cream, milk, vanilla, and salt until thick and fluffy. Pour on top of black sesame latte and enjoy!

Black Sesame Latte

Ingredients
Black sesame latte:
- 1 tablespoon (15 g) black sesame paste
- ¼ cup (59.15 g) hot water or milk
- 1-2 teaspoon (4 g) sweetener adjust to taste; can use regular sugar, stevia, agave, honey, etc. I prefer honey!
- 1 cup (244 g) milk of choice I used oat
Cheese foam (optional):
- 2 ounces (56.7 g) block cream cheese softened
- 1 tablespoon (10 g) sweetener white sugar, brown sugar syrup, maple syrup, honey, etc; adjust to taste!
- 3 tablespoons (45 g) heavy cream chilled
- 2 tablespoons (30 g) milk of choice I used oat
- ½-1 teaspoon (1 g) vanilla paste or extract; optional
- pinch of salt optional
Instructions
Make the black sesame latte:
- In your serving cup, mix 1 tablespoon black sesame paste with ¼ cup hot water or milk. Stir in 1-2 teaspoon sweetener.
- If you want your latte cold, add ice to your serving cup. If you want it hot, I recommend steaming and frothing your milk. In your serving cup, add 1 cup milk of choice. Taste and add more sweetener if needed.
Make the cheese cold foam (optional):
- In a small bowl, whisk together 2 ounces block cream cheese and 1 tablespoon sweetener until completely smooth and lump free.
- Add 3 tablespoons heavy cream, 2 tablespoons milk of choice, ½-1 teaspoon vanilla (optional), and pinch of salt (optional). Whisk until thick and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Taste, adding more vanilla or sweetener if needed. If the cold foam is too thick, stir in a splash of more milk.
Assemble:
- Pour cheese cold foam on top of black sesame latte. Enjoy!
