My homemade chai spice mix takes minutes to make and is great in lattes, cookies, bars, and more! Simply combine all of the ingredients into a container, shake, and it's ready to go.
Make sure to use fresh spices for longer-term storage!
In a small to medium storage container, add all of the ingredients: 4 tablespoons ground cinnamon, 3 tablespoons ground cardamom, 2 tablespoons ground ginger, 2 ¼ teaspoons ground nutmeg, ¾ teaspoon ground black pepper, and ½ teaspoon ground cloves.
Whisk to combine, or close container and shake. Keep sealed in a dry spot at room temperature for up to 2 years. Enjoy!
Notes
Want a slight licorice flavor? Add 0.25-0.5 teaspoon of ground anise or 0.5-1.0 teaspoon of ground fennel! Here are some ways I like to enjoy my chai mix:
A homemade latte! First, I heat and froth 1 cup of milk with 0.5-1.0 teaspoon of chai mix, which blooms the spices and enhances the flavor. Then, I steep the hot chai-infused milk with a bag of earl grey or plain black tea, and mix in about 1 tablespoon of honey. If I want a dirty chai, I'll add a shot of espresso.
In baking, I'll add 1.0-1.5 tablespoon of chai mix to my wet ingredients. Think chai cookies, chai cinnamon rolls, chai blondies!
